Urine testing for pets, also known as urinalysis or a urine sample test (UA), is a quick and non-invasive diagnostic test. It is used to assess your pet’s urinary tract health, kidney function, and overall well-being.

A pet urine test may be recommended if your pet is showing symptoms such as increased thirst, frequent urination, accidents, or signs of discomfort when urinating. It can also be used as part of routine health checks or to monitor ongoing conditions.

Collecting a pet’s urine sample is usually straightforward and stress-free. Our veterinary team will always advise you on the most appropriate and comfortable method for your pet, ensuring the process is handled gently and professionally.

Urine testing strips are often used as part of the initial assessment. These provide rapid results and can quickly highlight abnormalities such as glucose, protein, blood, or indicators of infection. In some cases, more detailed laboratory analysis may be recommended following an initial urine test. More detailed testing allows your vet to gain a deeper understanding of your pet’s condition and confirm a diagnosis.

Some urine test results, particularly those from urine testing strips, can be available very quickly - sometimes during the same appointment. More detailed laboratory analyses may take a little longer, depending on the type of testing required.
