Cremation

When a pet passes away, owners face the difficult decision of how they would like to say goodbye and remember their pet. Following euthanasia or the natural passing of a pet, our team will explain the aftercare options available and support you in making the decision that feels right for you and your family.

What are the options for my pet’s aftercare?

There are three main aftercare options available following a pet's passing:

Cremation through our practice: we can arrange communal or individual cremation services on your behalf.

Arrange cremation directly with a pet crematorium: you may make your own arrangements with a crematorium of your choice.

Take your pet home: you may take your pet home and make your own arrangements following their passing. If you choose to take your pet home following their passing, our team can explain any practical considerations and answer any questions you may have before you leave the practice.

You are under no obligation to choose any particular option, and our team will be happy to discuss each choice with you.

What is the difference between individual and communal cremation?

If you choose cremation, whether with our practice or elsewhere, there are two main options:

Individual cremation: with an individual cremation, your pet is cremated separately and their ashes can be returned to you if desired. This option may be suitable for pet owners who would like to keep or scatter their pet's ashes.

Communal cremation: with communal cremation, pets are cremated together and ashes are not returned. This option provides a simple and respectful form of aftercare.

Both options are handled with dignity, compassion, and professionalism.

Returning your pet's ashes

If you choose individual cremation, your pet’s ashes will be returned to you in a container or casket for you to keep. Some owners find comfort in keeping their pet’s ashes as a lasting reminder of the bond they shared, while others may choose a memorial or scattering at a place that feels meaningful. Memorial and keepsake options vary between providers, and your chosen crematorium can explain the options available.

How much does pet cremation cost?

The cost of pet cremation can vary depending on the option you choose, as well as any additional memorial items or keepsakes you may wish to include.

If you choose cremation through our practice, our team will provide transparent pricing and explain the available options, helping you make decisions without added stress during an emotional time. For further information on cremation service pricing, please see the price list on your local practice website, or speak to your local team.
